As a community learning organization, we work closely with the adults who enter our programs. We support them and encourage them, so they can compete confidently and comfortably in today’s demanding work environment.

CAEC Prep

The Canadian Adult Education Certificate
Start Date

What will I learn?

This class prepares learners for the The Canadian Adult Education Certificate. 

Earning your CAEC in Nova Scotia

The Canadian Adult Education Certificate (CAEC) is a new credential that replaces the General Educational Development (GED) test in Canada. The CAEC is for people who don’t have a high school diploma.

The CAEC is free for Nova Scotia residents.

What subjects does the CAEC cover?

The CAEC, like the GED, has five subject areas:

  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Reading 
  • Writing.

Each subject area has a test. When you pass all five tests, you will receive a CAEC certificate. 

Community Literacy: Cooking in the Bay

Mondays 9:30am – 3:30pm

What will I learn?

This class is for learners who want to learn more about healthy eating and cooking while staying on a budget. Participants will improve their cooking, math, communication, and reading skills. In the class, we will choose easy, nutritious, and affordable recipes to make and share together. Participants will plan for the class with the budget in mind and have time to reflect on what they learned and how they can use it in their daily lives.

Time Capture and Beyond: Digital Skills with Purpose
Start Date

Tuesdays 1:30 – 5 pm

Wednesdays 1:30 – 4:30 pm

Thursdays 1:30 – 5:00 pm

Fridays 9:30 – 12:30 pm

Note: Learners can attend all, or just one class during the week

What will I learn?

The goal of this multifaceted program is to build learners’ skills, understanding, and confidence around technology using a variety of digital tools. The classes are dynamic, taking into account the individual needs of each learner. We like to work together as a group to help ensure meaningful learning is happening.

Time Capture and Beyond: Podcasting

Fridays 1:30 – 3:30 pm

What will I learn?

This class provides a space for learners to collaborate, share ideas, and experiment with podcasting equipment and software. Learners work to develop their own podcasts and/or contribute to group projects. It is also a place to discover new shows, explore creative storytelling, and build confidence in a supportive environment–perfect for beginners and those looking to hone their skills!

Learners build digital and literacy skills in a supportive, community-focused environment. This course provides hands-on experience with digital tools, opportunities for collaboration, and personalized learning plans tailored to individual goals. Whether enhancing foundational skills or exploring new ones, learners are empowered to achieve both short-term and long-term success.
